    AT END OF
I-35 HIGHWAY: Pay toll and cross bridge into Mexico

Follow the “Car Permit” signs to get your your car and immigration documents. Affix the decal for your vehicle to the windshield lower left corner on drivers’ side.

    LEAVING DOCUMENT AREA

Leave through the same gate you entered Turn RIGHT . This will put you on the road around Nuevo Laredo to HWY 85 to Monterrey. Be sure to fill up with gas.

    Approx. Odometer Reading:

    Miles/km Miles/km

ADUANA: This is approximately 16 miles from the (mile 00) documentation area. This final checkpoint is what we all refer to as “Check Point Charlie” Here they will look at your vehicle permit, all apers and there is another red/green light.

29.7 (29.7 miles) “Y” in Road. Left fork says

41.5 (47.5 km) “MONTERREY CUOTA” (which means Hwy 85D toll road) TAKE LEFT FORK. Right fork says Monterrey “Libre” (free road).

58.7 (29 miles) Toll Booth approx. Need pesos

    93.9 (46.4 km)

106.2 (47.5 miles) End of Toll Road. Start of 4 lane divided

169.9 (76 km) hwy. In 1 ½ miles you will see and airport on the right.

    109.6 (3.4 miles) A sign that says “SALTILLO/MEXICO

175.4 (5.4 km) RIGHT” TURN RIGHT. (This starts the Hwy 40 Monterey Bypass)

124 (14.4 miles) Toll Booth (Need Pesos)

    198.4 (23.1 km)

134.1 (10.1 miles) Sign says “SALTILLO” CURVE RIGHT

214.6 (16.2 km) (End of bypass now)

156.2 (22.1 miles) There is a huge sign that says ‘APASCO”

249.9 (35.4 km) (cement factory). Hwy 40 Past this sign a little way is a LEFT TURN

Hwy 57 THAT SAYS “MATEHUALA/MEXICO CUOTA” CURVE LEFT (Hwy 57)

    (Saltillo bypass)

    NOTE FOR THOSE STAYING OVERNIGHT

If you need to stay the night in Saltillo go straight ahead. You will come to a Holiday Inn on the right. If this is too pricey straight ahead at the Apasco Sign (about 6 miles) watch for the “Quinta Royal”sign on the opposite side of the highway. Go a little further and make a U-turn. When leaving in the morning take “Matehuala Cuota”

162.1 (5.9 miles) Toll Booth (Need Pesos)

    259.4 (9.4 km)

    Hwy 57D

186 (23.0 miles) Toll Booth (Need Pesos) From here it

297.7 (38.3 km) approx 2 hours to Matehuala (215 km or approx 130 miles)

THIS IS A 4 LANE NEW DIVIDED HIGHWAY

There is a Pemex about 22 miles on the left side of the highway if you need to gas up. Next one is in Matehuala.

NOTE: There is now a periferico around Matehaula, so if you do not need to stay overnight or fuel up continue to go around this one.

316 (130 miles) As you enter Matehuala there is a

514.7 (217 km) Pemex on the right side. Approx. 1 mile on the left is a Motel/RV Park called Las Palmas Midway Inn. Very clean and good food. All so just past on left is the “Casa Inn”about 200 peso’s cheaper and a Free breakfast.

436 ( 120 miles) From here to San Luis Potosi is a

714.7 (200 km) four lane highway. Takes about 1 ½ hrs to 2 hrs. Depending on how fast you drive. If you need to go into S.L.P. or to stay overnight follow number #1. If not follow directions #2.

    Directions #1

As you enter S.L. Potosi stay on the main road as it takes very little time to travel. If you need to stay overnight you will notice you will be passing Costco Sams Wallmart on your left and just a few blocks past 2 or 3 on your right, you will see signs for a University on your right. Stay in the right hand lane and follow the road around to the back side of it going down a small hill. About three blocks on your left side there is a real nice motel, “Casa Inn”

536 (100 miles) As you leave S.L. Potosi there are curves for

881.6 (166.6 km) approx 10 miles, narrow 2 lane for approx. (100 miles to Lagos de Moreno)

    Directions # 2

Continue on straight ahead to México City. You will come upon a toll booth. Continue on and as the highway narrows down follow over the highway and just down the road you will see the signs for Lagos de Moreno/Guadalajara, this will take you around S.L.P. and is faster.

586 (50 miles) A small town called “Ojuelos de Jalisco”

964.9 (83.3 km) you go around this town. It cost 11 peso’s and then the highway turns into Hwy 80

    “Highway #80”.

NOTE: As you enter Lagos de Moreno there will be some construction where you have to turn right to go to Guadalajara. (As of Dec 08, 2004)

631 (45 miles) Next town will be Lagos de Moreno, once

1039.9 (75 km) you go around the town there is a 4 lane divided highway for 15 miles.

646 (15 miles) The sign reads “GUADALAJARA

    1064 (25 km) COUTA” Hwy 80

    Hwy 80

At this point you are home free. You are on the toll road that will take you to the outer edge of Guadalajara. About two (2) hours further, after you pass the 3rd TOLL BOOTH you will Rise onto a BRIDGE that CURVES LEFT. From here on the “Chapala” TURN is well marked. Stay in your RIGHT LANE and about one (1) mile further you will see a sign that says “CHAPALA” to

the RIGHT. Further on go Under a Bridge and TURN RIGHT up onto the bridge and follow the signs to the “AEROPUERTO and CHAPALA” . In about a mile you will pass the “HOTEL TAPATIO” on your left as you climb a short steep hill.
